"Christkindlmarket" by Chef Lance Avery
by dwolf
Beer, sausage, and potato pancakes; though it does sound like heaven, it’s not; it’s just the 15th annual Christkindlmarket. Christkindlmarket, the celebration of all good things German.
Offering a wide range of German foods, I fortunately discovered the newest and tastiest of all at this year’s show. Called German Handbread, this slightly sour whole wheat German “calzone” is filled with savories like cheese, mushrooms and spicy ham, and they come out of the oven piping hot, in long golden brown slabs, and are cut to order, into serving sizes for $6 each. If you want hearty gut bomb, this is it.
So if you happen to be traveling downtown next Christmas season, you owe it to yourself to swing by Christkindlmarket Chicago for a one of a kind holiday experience — outside of Germany, that is.
