'Jessica Ashley Delectable Desserts' by Chef Kyleigh Beach
Baking a cake is one thing, but creating works of art out of sugar, butter, and eggs is quite another. Jessica Ashley of Jessica Ashley Delectable Desserts creates edible masterpieces. Jessica does some of her work out of CBI’s kitchen so I have been lucky enough to watch her sculpt flowers, shoes, and boom boxes out of sugar. One of my pet peeves with cupcakes, cakes, and iced cookies is that they look much better than they taste. Not so with Jessica’s desserts. Flavor is number one and the decoration is, well, the icing on the cake. One interesting thing I learned about cake decorating by watching her is that sometimes what is under the fancy fondant is really Styrofoam. Clients want big, beautifully decorated cakes, but they may only be hosting a party for a dozen people. Layers of Styrofoam are the answer.
