"Sangria" by Kirstin Massmann

Even though it may not even feel like Spring all the time in Chicago, Summer is quickly approaching and great Summer drinks are a must for fun parties or even just front porch relaxing.   Sangria is a great option especially to use up what you have in your fridge or liquor cabinet.  The must-haves for this delicious refreshing drink are wine, fruit, ice, and bubbly water or soda.  The wine can of course be red or white, dry or sweet.  For the fruit I would suggest something fresh and in season possibly citrusy as well as fruity, and the more colorful the better.  Bubbly water can be replaced with Sprite, Fresca, Sparkling Lemonade, etc., just be sure to taste as you add so you don’t make it too sweet.  Now if you want to kick it up a notch, I would highly suggest adding some vodka.  The vodka can be regular, orange, lemon, lime, peach, really any fruity flavor, just remember to taste as you go so it doesn’t become too sweet or too strong. (Usually 1 bottle of wine to 4-8 ounces of vodka depending on flavor and strength.)  Combine the wine, vodka, and fruit and chill.  Serve it over ice and/or frozen berries (as seen in picture) top with your bubbly soda and serve to your friends!  It is your easy ticket to a fun evening!
